Instead of being dependent on weight loss pills, anti-depressants and other such pills for almost everything in our lives, isn’t it better that we take charge of some effective exercise to relieve the unnecessary tension and improve our overall health both physically and mentally? This article briefs about certain parasympathetic exercises that can be cited in this regard.

If you are wondering what exactly is meant by parasympathetic exercise, then the simplest explanation that could clear your query would be – those exercises which are not too straining and do not stress the sympathetic nervous system. These are generally advisable for those with high levels of stress, though everybody can get benefit from them. Here is a list of the most common exercises that belong to this category:

The diverse types of exercises
  • Yoga
The entire world has woken up to the Yoga concept. Let us just end with saying that Yoga is akin to a brand today. This helps in relaxation and is one of the least stressful yet most effective of exercises. Not only does the body feel great after a Yoga session, so does the mind.

  • Deep breathing
Moving on from Yoga, there is another great parasympathetic exercise that has been beneficial to all those who have tried it over a long term. The main reason behind the success of this exercise in eliminating stress is that it directly helps the nerves to calm down and also brings down levels of respiration and the also reduces the heartbeat rate. It has been scientifically proven that deep breathing helps to relive the body of anxiety. Thus, it is recommended that you should alternate your normal breathing with deep breathing in intervals of a few seconds.

  • Meditation
An add-on to the concept of deep breathing is that of meditation. This refers to focusing the mind onto a stream of blank thoughts. This aids in development of patience and concentration ability if practiced properly. Meditation has been seen to help in relaxation of the mind and in rapid reduction of stress levels. Thus, this exercise is a great one for the parasympathetic nervous system. Studies have revealed the fact that the brain signals during any meditative activity is equal to that which is seen during deep sleep.

  • Jogging the light way
Are you too busy with the time crunching schedule at work? This is no cause to fret over. Simple go in for some light jogging. While vigorous jogging is great for losing weight , this form of jogging aids in stimulation of the body along with contributing to the cutting down of stress levels. This exercise is of great benefit for the parasympathetic nervous system.

Now that you are well informed about the benefits of the parasympathetic nervous system, go start them right away. You shall feel the benefits yourself!

The app was designed and built by Mike, a fellow P90X and Insanity "X-er" who, by tracking hiw workouts and nutrition, was able to lose 70 pounds and achieve amazing results. This app is the result of his success.

On a comment left on my blog, Mike said "I got tired of the apps that were "not quite right" for P90X and decided to build one after losing 70 lbs on P90X. It has the exact schedule and all the moves plus nutrition and measurements."

Here are a few screenshots:
